American Runner Mark Covert to Celebrate Milestone in TEIL Socks!
Andover, Minnesota-July 17, 2008
TEIL Running Socks is proud to announce that California resident and lifelong distance runner Mark Covert will celebrate 40 years of not missing a day of running on July 23rd, 2008 in his new favorite running socks, TEIL Running Socks! Mark's consecutive day running streak ranks as the longest in North America, as listed on the US Running Streak Association list.
Known in the running community as "The Streak", Mark realized back in 1968 that he had a couple of months of running going without missing a day. He decided to go for 100 days, just kept going and hasn't missed a day since.
Not a jogger, Mark's resume includes some very notable achievements:
California Community College Cross Country Champion
National Community College Distance Records
NCAA Division II National Cross Country Champion
NCAA Division II Track All American
One of Mark's most infamous achievements is that he was the first runner to cross a finish line in a pair of Nike waffle sole shoes, the innovative product that launched Nike in running; Mark placed 7th at the 1972 US Olympic Trials Marathon race.
Mark has been coaching runners to reach new personal bests at the college level since 1974, and is currently Head Coach at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California.
